We have a huge piece of news to report.
According to a breaking news report from National Football League insider Adam Schefter, veteran NFL quarterback Cam Newton has finally signed a new deal and he will be joining the New England Patriots. It is a monster announcement given that the Patriots lost star quarterback Tom Brady to free agency in the offseason and one that no doubt makes the Patriots a much more competitive squad than they would have otherwise been given the absence of the aforementioned Brady. The Patriots do have quarterback Jarrett Stidham waiting in the wings but I would suspect that this is a strong indication that the team was looking for a significant upgrade at his position.
CBS' Pete Blackburn summed it up quite nicely in a tweet:
Schefter reports that this is going to be a one year deal, one that is loaded with incentives for Newton, and could potentially lead to a longer collaboration between Newton and the Patriots should this prove to be successful. At 31 years of age Newton remains in his athletic prime and it will be extremely interesting to see what an athletic player like him can do under the guidance of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
Stay tuned for more details.
