Is this the right move?

The season might be over, but there is still loads of action in the National Football League, starting with what just took place moments ago. As first reported by ESPN and reporter and insider Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Kansas City Chiefs are finalizing a trade to send cornerback Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams.

The deal cannot be completed until the start of the new league year on March 14, but everything appears to be in place.

The Chiefs also pulled another major trade lately, sending quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins, but like the Peters deal, it will only be official once the start of the league year next month. Teams can agree to trades before then, but either side can back out before the trade is official.

Peters is a talented cornerback, but the Chiefs were reportedly having enough of his antics. Last year, he was suspended for one game as during a Week 13 game against the New York Jets, Peters threw a penalty flag into the crowd after a Jets' two-point conversion attempt. Talks heated up this offseason that Kansas City was looking to move him elsewhere.

It now seems in the books.

Peters was the Chiefs’ first-round draft pick in 2015. He’s set to make $1.7 million this season, and the Rams will presumably pick up his fifth-year option for 2019 as well. If his head is on straight, the Rams just acquired a significant addition to their secondary, one who will allow them to let free agent-to-be Trumaine Johnson walk. He is unlikely to return to the team as Peters is acquired.
