The New England Patriots have dealt backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts for wide receiver Phillip Dorsett.
Dorsett's acquisition gives the Patriots immediate depth at the receiver position alongside Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and Malcolm Mitchell. This is especially crucial after star receiver Julian Edelman tore his ACL in the preseason.
The 24-year-old Dorsett was a first-round pick in 2015 out of the University of Miami, but he didn't quite live up to his first-round expectations in Indianapolis. The former Hurricanes star struggled to break out in the Indianapolis offense, recording 753 yards and three touchdowns on 51 receptions in two seasons.
The move also gives the Colts a young, upcoming gunslinger who can step in while Andrew Luck continues to recover from his injury. He's still on the physically unable to perform list.
Brissett was a third-round pick by the Patriots in 2016 and started two games while Tom Brady was serving a four-game suspension for his role in Deflategate
