We reported earlier that the Dallas Cowboys have agreed to terms with punter Chris Jones to a four-year deal. NFL insider Ian Rapoport has revealed just minutes ago the financial details of the 28-year-old's third professional contract:
Jones was slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season. He can be considered a top-5 punter in the league, which is good news for the Cowboys to lock him for the foreseeable future.
Jones is an undrafted player from the 2011 draft out of Carson-Newman College in Tennessee. Last season, he made 58 punts for 2,389 total yards, an average of 45.9 yards. NFL.com has reported that "he has the all-time highest percentage of punts downed inside the 20-yard line (39.9 percent) in history."
