According to court reports obtained from NFL.com, Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Dante Fowler has been charged with three misdemeanors.

The charges include first-degree battery, criminal mischief and petty theft in connection to his July 18 arrest in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Fowler was charged on August 10th, and police reports state that the 23-year-old began "punching" a man after being involved in a "brief verbal confrontation".

The charges carry up to a year in jail, should Fowler be convicted on all three counts. He will very likely also face dicipline from the NFL for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Last year Fowler broke into the NFL as a rookie out of Florida. He played in 16 games but only started one, notching 32 tackles and four sacks.

This year Fowler has been projected to start opposite Calais Campbell, beside former Denver Bronco Mailk Jackson, in a very high-potential defensive line.
