It's the question around the Broncos this offseason: Paxton Lynch or Trevor Siemian?
Regardless of what you, I, or anyone else thinks, the hard truth of the matter is that it's still far too early to tell.
That's the line John Elway is towing anyways.
Elway, the Denver Broncos general manager, weighed in on the quarterback duel speaking with Mike Klis of 9 News:
“They are going to keep competing for the job. We’ve been in camp a week and two days. We’ll get into preseason. We have not played a game. So as soon as we play a couple games we’ll evaluate then and a decision will be made.”
Elway might need to be diplomatic, but recent Hall of Fame inductee and Broncos legend Terrell Davis can call it like he sees it. And Davis sees it like this:
“I was out at practice and saw them and they had their ups and downs. I guess for me it’s Siemian because he’s been there. I like the fact that he has a year under his belt. I’m not saying it’s long-term but right now I think Trevor could be that guy for us.”
Most pundits seem to agree with Davis' assessment. Siemian started 14 games last season, and has looked more consistent through training camp than his counterpart, Lynch. But Elway is right, we're going to have to wait and see how this competition plays itself out.
The Broncos first preseason game will be on Thursday, August 10th. The No Fly Zone will visit Chicago to take on the Bears. It might be an exhibition game, but it's one that will mean an awful lot to Denver's two potential starting quarterbacks.
