Broncos' wide receiver Cody Latimer has released a public statement in regards to an incident outside of an Ohio strip club where he was pepper sprayed earlier this year.
The incident took place back in February, with TMZ releasing video from the scene only recently.
In that video, Latimer can be seen with his arms out between his group and the bouncer. Latimer then slaps the bouncer, who responds by spraying him with pepper spray. Latimer's uncle then lunges at the bouncer and is knocked out.
Reportedly, Latimer and his entourage left immediately afterward. Police were not called to the scene and no charges have been filed.
With the release of the video, Latimer has found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. He released this statement today:
The 24-year-old has had some off-field troubles before. On May 31, 2016, Latimer was arrested for an outstanding traffic ticket, but nothing quite as serious as this February incident.
Both the Broncos and the NFL were already aware of the incident, and it is unlikely that Latimer will be officially disciplined by the league.
A 2014 second-round pick, Latimer has largely failed to live up to the hype he had breaking into the NFL. He has struggled to make just 16 career receptions for 158 yards and one touchdown. His special teams ability might be the only quality keeping him around, but with a crop of young talent chomping at the bit, Latimer could be on the outside looking in come training camp.
