Cam Heyward reveals true thoughts on Russell Wilson
From one veteran Steelers leader to the newest one.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be boasting a radically different look under center this season, as quarterbacks Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky are all playing elsewhere while Russell Wilson and Justin Fields have arrived in town.
Needless to say, it's a major gamble for the Steelers, especially after the disastrous tenure for Wilson with the Denver Broncos following his departure from the Seattle Seahawks. But if there's one player on the Steelers that certainly has his new teammate's back, it's captain Cam Heyward.
Heyward praised Wilson's work ethic and motivation, saying that he displays the perfect mindset of what a Steelers player should be.
"I think his motivation is at an all-time high," Heyward said about Wilson during a Wednesday appearance on "The Jim Rome Show," as shared by Joe Clark of Steelers Depot. "Russ came in with the mindset to want to be the best he can. He's picked all of our brains and just understanding what it is to be a Pittsburgh Steeler."
"The thing I've loved the most is just how detailed he is throughout the day," Heyward added about Wilson. "When he steps into the building, there's no shortage of doing the little things and doing the extra things. Whether it's spending extra time with your receivers, going over film work, continue to just keep learning. It's like he's a student of the game."
Wilson and the Steelers will begin Training Camp later this month. Heyward has been a notable holdout from OTA's while he waits for a new, more lucrative contract.
