For fans of the Dallas Cowboys who were worried about the status of All-Pro defensive end Micah Parsons for the upcoming 2024 season, they needn't be.
Earlier today, it was announced by the team that they have officially picked up the 5th-year option on his rookie contract for the upcoming campaign, meaning he'll be making a cool $21.3 million.
One of the most valuable defensive players in the NFL, Parsons has not only earned three Pro Bowl nominations so far in his career but has also twice been designated as an All-Pro. Additionally, he was named the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year.
However, this means that the team still has to work out a contract for Parsons beyond this season if the two sides are going to continue their relationship beyond this upcoming season.
“Now when you’re talking about big contracts, like a Dak, like a CeeDee, like a Micah, those things don’t happen overnight,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said on Wednesday. “Those things take time. Obviously, there’s timing based on what other teams are doing with their players at that position. So there’s a lot of moving parts and certainly you want to get it right.”
But for now, Cowboys fans can rest assured that Parsons will be in the mix at least through the end of the upcoming 2024 campaign. Can he help them go on an extended playoff run this time around?
