The Dallas Cowboys have just acquired a new quarterback.
According to a breaking news report from National Football League insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dallas Cowboys have signed former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton to a brand new deal. Schefter reports that this will be a one year deal that will be worth a maximum of $7 million with only $3 million in guaranteed money for Dalton.
This is obviously a huge move for the Cowboys as it now gives them a very legitimate backup option behind star quarterback Dak Prescott. Many have speculated that this could be a tactic on the part of the Cowboys or that this could be somehow related to the Prescott situation, however it sounds like that is not the case here. The Cowboys remain focused on Prescott as their number one quarterback and this now solidifies them with a high quality backup should Prescott find himself sidelined by injury at any point during the season.
Andy Dalton was already living in Texas, Dalton owns a home in Dallas in fact, so this move is obviously a major convenience for him in the latter stages of his NFL career.
