Former NFL player Peyton Hillis was listed as being in critical condition after he reportedly saved his children from drowning in the Gulf of Mexico last week in what is being described as a swimming accident.
And the latest update regarding his health status is positive. Per NFL reporter Dov Kleiman, he's no longer hooked up to ventilator and is on the road to recovery.
"Great News: Former #NFL RB Peyton Hillis is ‘on road to recovery’ after the accident in which he rescued his kids from drowning.
Hillis was in critical condition and remained at the ICU for an extended period.
Peyton is now off the ventilator and doing better, amazing!"
Hillis' girlfriend Angela Cole wrote the following on Instagram:
“A hero,” Cole wrote. “So proud of this man and so incredibly grateful for family and this incredible hospital. Peyton is off the ventilator and is on the road to recovery. Please continue to pray for he’s still got a ways ahead of him, but thank you for all of your prayers and love and support thus far. It truly makes all the difference. Today was a good day.”
The former NFL running back played collegiately at the University of Arkansas and later played for five teams during his pro career.
