"It’s long been understood that the Eagles have been waiting to cut Mathews once he’s healthy so they can save a full $4 million in cap space with his release. If the Eagles had to cut Mathews with an injury settlement, they’d only save $2.85 million."
There were high hopes when the former first round pick out of Fresno State when he came over to the Eagles in 2015. He had made the Pro Bowl in his second season with San Diego but could never replicate that success. He finished with 539 and 661 rushing yards respectively in his 2 seasons with the Eagles.
