It's fair to say that former veteran linebacker and Eagles legend Jeremiah Trotter is drinking the Kool-Aid this offseason. He took to the airwaves to explain why the Eagles are finally in a position to win a division title over the much-heralded Dallas Cowboys this season.
“I think they’re a playoff team. Everybody wants to talk about Dallas and how good they are, and they are a good football team, but the Eagles are right there, or better. Because we went into Dallas last year and should have won the football game.
“I think the Eagles have the best pass blocking offensive line, which is what they like to do, pass the football. They’re solid, they have a running back now.
"I think they’re right there. I think they can match Dallas in points, not a lot of teams can do that and the defense got better this year.”
So what exact moves have convinced Trotter that a corner has been turned in Philadelphia?
Well, the Eagles will have the benefit of newly added offensive weapons in Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith, and LeGarrette Blount, for starters. The pressure is now on Carson Wentz, who won't have the excuse he had last season concerning a lack of options. Wentz looks like he's ready to handle that kind of pressure, however.
Philadelphia will also have Lane Johnson for a full season this year, and his importance can't really be overlooked. The Eagles managed to outscore their competition 166-83 with Johnson starting but were outscored 248-201 while he served his 10 game suspension for violating the NFL substance abuse policy for the second time.
On top of that, Wentz plays better with Johnson at right tackle, putting up a 64.9% pass completion rate along with 10 touchdowns and a 96.7 passer rating when playing with Johnson.
The two teams play on November 19th, and we already know who Trotter is putting his money on.
