Former Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith totally ripped new Giants GM Dave Gettleman Saturday morning on NFL Network. Gettleman released Smith while GM of the Panthers.
We're going to get the exact quote momentarily, but we'll try to paraphrase Smith's words here. While not an exact quote, it went something like this:
Dave Gettleman has always been known as a great talent evaluator, but where he lacked was dealing with humans. Remember that it took him to the age of 63 or 64 to get a GM position, and you have to wonder why it tooks teams that long to hire him as their GM. In my opinion, the negatives outweighed the positives.
Smith also gave another jab, saying that the Panthers' Super Bowl 50 team was a product of former GM Marty Hurney, not Gettleman.
At that point, cohosts on the show like former NFL fullback Michael Robinson were clearly surprised that Smith just blasted Gettleman. Not only that, he did it quite effectively too.
Other Twitter users chimed in:
Of course, we'll always have to remember Smith's bias. It was Gettleman who released him in a messy divorce in Carolina, and those hard personal feelings will likely never leave Smith.
