Wishing him the best...
Nick Fairley’s 2017 season may be in jeopardy as a heart condition, first discovered in his pre-draft physical, has become a cause for concern again. Fairley joined the New Orleans Saints for the 2016 season and had a very good year anchoring the middle of the Saints defensive line. He had career highs in tackles and sacks with 43 and 6.5 respectively.
In his 6 years as a pro, this issue hadn’t reared its ugly head until now. If Fairley can’t go for the 2017 season, the Saints are left without any really intriguing names in free agency but there are enough players on the roster to step in and contribute. 2nd year players Sheldon Rankins and David Onyemata will have to step up after learning the ropes as rookies last year. Rankins was the Saints first round pick in 2016 and Onyemata was a project interior lineman taken out of Canada who has all the physical tools to be a very good defender in the NFL.
We can only hope for a speedy recover for Nick Fairley who starred at Auburn before being drafted by the Lions in 2011. After 4 seasons in Detroit, he spent 1 season in St.Louis before joining the Saints. The Saints defense needs all the help they can get so having Fairley healthy will go a long way for the team.
