A new story on Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo reveals his thoughts about a crazy offseason where it looked like he was going to be traded but now still finds himself as Tom Brady's backup.

"Eager to play is probably a better way to put it. I’m just not used to being a backup. I want to be a starter, and compete to be a starter. That’s how I look at it.” - That's what Jimmy Garoppolo told Albert Breer the other day.

“I tried to shut myself out from it,” Garoppolo says. “But just naturally, friends, family, would say, ‘Hey, did you hear this? Did you see this?’ It was that type of thing. I’d end up hearing about it one way or the other. A lot of it was rumor. Then it started to get serious for a while.“I tried to shut myself out from it,” Garoppolo says. “But just naturally, friends, family, would say, ‘Hey, did you hear this? There's this idea that Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be a great quarterback in this league. The problem is that the data is inconclusive. He started 2 games before being injured during Brady's deflategate suspension and while he was fine in those 2 games, it's still only 2 games.
