Broncos General Manager John Elway was asked for his thoughts on the national anthem protests that a number of NFL players are taking part in.
Elway's response:
Elway was asked about Broncos' linebacker Brandon Marshall in particular, to which Elway responded:
In 2016 Marshall was one of several players, most notably Colin Kaepernick, who protested police brutality in the USA by not standing during the pregame national anthem. While Marshall eventually halted his protests, he did take action away from the field to try and enact positive changes.
Elway seems grateful that these actions were taken away from the field, not bringing any unnecessary distractions to the team.
