Mike Tomlin has been the head coach of the Steelers for nearly the last two decades, and has never endured a losing season. After a slow start to 2023, he helped the team rebound and finish 10-7 with another playoff spot.
He's set to enter his 18th season on the job, and ahead of the upcoming 2024 campaign, he's been named the 3rd best NFL head coach by Touchdown Wire; only the Kansas City Chiefs’ Andy Reid and Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay are ranked higher than Tomlin.
They wrote about Tomlin:
"Now, while the Steelers have yet to have a losing record in the 17 seasons that Tomlin has been running the show, they also haven’t won a playoff game in seven years. It’s evident that Tomlin and Co. feel that pressure, as they made a lot of “non-Steeler” moves this offseason. They traded away Kenny Pickett and brought in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. They spent big money in free agency, specifically on linebacker Patrick Queen. Pittsburgh is going to be in the AFC playoff scramble, once again. We’ll see if they can end their playoff drought in the midst of it."
Tomlin has never endured a losing season as Steelers head coach, but the lack of recent playoff success has left many wondering if the clock should be ticking on his time in Pittsburgh.
