NFL sets new record with COVID-19 positive cases
It's the highest number of positive cases in the NFL ever.
As the ongoing COVID-19 Omicron variant continues to wreak havoc in professional sports leagues, the National Football League has set an ominous record today.
106 players across the NFL were placed on the list Monday, 96 of those players having tested positive. It's the highest number the League has ever seen since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020, and at least twice the number of the previous highest number of cases.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter:
“Last year, from the start of the regular season through the Super Bowl, there were 262 player positives. There already have been more than 400 player positives in the month of December alone.”
The CDC, however, has updated their recommended isolation period time for positive cases from 10 days to five.
