Packers release discouraging injury updates

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a victory at Lambeau Field over the visiting Los Angeles Rams, improving their record to a somewhat more digestible 3-5 through the first eight games of the season.
However, as they prepare to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in a hostile road environment at Acrisure Stadium, they've released some discouraging injury updates.
According to head coach Matt LaFleur, cornerback Jaire Alexander and linebacker Quay Walker have officially been designated as "questionable" to play. Walker is dealing with a shoulder issue, while Alexander was injured against the Rams and appears poised to miss his 4th game of 2023.
“He’s a hell of a player,” LaFleur said of Alexander after practice today. “He’s one of the best in the business. Anytime you don’t have him, it doesn’t necessarily help your team.”
Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry stated that it's a harsh reality, but that's what his team must deal with.
“I’d be lying to you if I said you’re not affected by it because you are,” Barry said this week. “But, bottom line, you’ve got to [adapt]. It’s not only our approach as coaches but the attitude and the mindset that the player has. That’s what we continually try to preach that you’ve got to prepare every single day like you could play five plays or you could play 65 plays.”
It's also up to the players on the roster to step up and fill the void.
“I think it’s a credit not only to the position coaches getting those guys ready to play,” Barry continued, “but then also the player having the mindset that, if you take the mindset of a backup, you’re going to go in and play like a backup. You’ve got to take the mindset that, ‘I’m a starter in waiting and my time could happen at any moment.’”
The Steelers and Packers face one another from Pittsburgh on Sunday starting at 1:00 PM EST.
