Pittsburgh Steelers' Minkah Fitzpatrick officially makes NFL history
He's still in “shock”.
Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick isn't going anywhere. In fact, he's sticking around the Steel City, and making NFL history by doing so.
The Steelers have officially re-signed him to a record-setting four year, $73.6 million deal. Fitzpatrick, who was set to become an UFA after the 2022 season, is now the highest paid safety in NFL history.
"I am very excited," said Fitzpatrick. "I am still kind of in shock right now. It's a blessing. I am really excited. It's just the beginning. I am appreciative. I am thankful. Now I just want to keep on chopping."
"I love the history here. What it stands for. The standard we are held to. The standard Coach [Mike] Tomlin holds us to, on the field and off the field. The standard of winning playoff games, division titles and championship games."
He was originally selected by the Miami Dolphins with the No. 11 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. However, he was traded to Pittsburgh in 2019 along with fourth- and seventh-round draft picks for first-, fifth- and sixth-round picks.
Last season, he led the team in tackles with 124 and also caught two interceptions along with seven passes defended.
