Various media outlets are suggesting that the Denver Broncos are "aggressively" pursuing Cincinnati Bengals backup quarterback AJ McCarron, and that's not sitting well with general manager John Elway.
Denver Post beat writer Nicki Jhabvala also played down the notion:
The AJ McCarron-to-Denver rumors aren't exactly new. They've been around since March of last year, when McCarron addressed the buzz surrounding his status during an interview with WNSP-FM 105.5 in Mobile.
“I am thankful for the opportunity I have right now. Of course, I want to play. What quarterback doesn’t? The way I look at it, God has a plan. Whatever happens is going to happen,” McCarron said, via Cincy Jungle. “He is going to set things up. I expect to be in Cincinnati. I understand my name is out there, but I don’t know what other teams are looking to do. I’m taking it day by day and enjoying the moment.”
Any talk of John Elway going after a new gunslinger shouldn't be seen as totally outrageous. No one is suggesting that either Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch are wowing crowds in training camp, and unless we see a huge leap this year from Siemian, the Broncos are in danger of missing the playoffs again.
