Patriots fans can breathe a sigh of relief
Tom Brady wannabe Julian Edelman is nearing a contract extension with the Patriots. Edelman is entering the final year of his contract but both he and New England want to keep him around for much longer.
Edelman has been a revelation in New England playing with Tom Brady. A 7th round pick in 2009, by 2013 he had 105 catches in that season. This past year, he hauled in 98 balls. He’s become one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets and with Rob Gronkowski’s injury problems, the Patriots know they have to keep him around for a long time. Edelman has been a warrior in the playoffs for the Patriots also. This past season, where the Patriots won the Superbowl, Edelman caught 21 balls in the 3 playoffs games. In 2014, another Patriots Super Bowl triumph, he caught 26 passes in the playoffs.
The contract extension should be completed within the next couple of days.
