The rib injury suffered by Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery isn't as bad as originally thought, and he could play Week 5 vs. the Dallas Cowboys, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Montgomery is being viewed as day to day by the team.

The injury was sustained on the first play of Thursday's game against the Chicago Bears. His night ended with five carries for 28 yards, including a long of 11 yards.

The silver lining might be that 10 days separate the Packers' Week 4 and 5 games, which could allow Montgomery to return without missing any more than the three quarters he already sat out.

Backup running Jamaal Williams, who was injured during the Bears game as well, also escaped serious injury, according to Schefter.

The Packers finished the game with third-string rusher Aaron Jones, but the team doesn't plan on bringing in any outside running backs between games.
