Sometimes the guys kicking the football get a bad wrap, but that kind of talk probably isn't heard in the Cowboys locker room. At least not within earshot of punter Chris "the Punisher" Jones.
There's a damn good reason for that, exemplified in this video from last season:
That's Jones putting an end to the return of his own kick by taking out Detroit Lions' wide receiver. No wonder then that the Cowboys want to keep him around long term, according to Eric Edholm.
And he can move too. Jones managed a fake down on a fake punt play last season, and even recovered a fumble in 2015. He is currently in the last year of his three-year, $4.2-million contract extension that he signed with the Cowboys in 2015.
Jones has six-years NFL experience with the Cowboys, who signed him as an undrafted free agent back in 2011. He's only been blocked three times in his career, and has averaged more than 45 yards per kick in every season except his rookie campaign, where he came up with a measly 42.6 yard average. Once again, no wonder the Cowboys want to keep him around.
Expect to hear about a lucrative new deal for Jones in the coming days.
