The Pittsburgh Steelers have a completely new look at quarterback this season thanks to the arrivals of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
However, as Training Camp opened, Wilson was a non-participant while Fields took QB1 reps.
According to head coach Mike Tomlin, Wilson is dealing with calf tightness and it was his call to sit him for the practice opener.
"It was my decision to sit him down today and create a little short-term discomfort for him," Tomlin said of Wilson, via the team's website, "not allowing the small problem to become a bigger problem."
However, Tomlin noted that his plans of Wilson being the starter have not changed.
"Very carefully," Tomlin said when asked how he would allocate reps between Fields and Wilson. "You think I'm actually going to back myself into a corner so you guys are gonna ask me daily about the rep allocations? No way. I've been on the job too long for that."
