With the Dallas Cowboys officially in the offseason earlier than anticipated once again, speculation continues to abound as to what Jerry Jones and company will be during in the next few months.
And according to one rather stunning report, the Cowboys could actually decide to move on from popular running back Ezekiel Elliott. As you know, Tony Pollard is now the lead RB in town, while Elliott racked up a career low 876 yards on 3.8 yards per carry this past season.
So, what does the team think about his prospects for staying in Dallas in the near future?
“We’re probably one of the top teams in the league already with what we pay running backs,’’ Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones said. “We have to make sure how we pay attention to this and how we spread it out, how we divide up the pie. We have to relook at that.
“Obviously, Tony is looking to make more money. So, we have to relook the whole things in terms of running back and what that looks like. You always want Zeke. But do the numbers work?’’
How about offensive lineman Tyron Smith?
Jones said about a potential return, “I have no reason to believe he won’t."
Elliott is in the midst of the six-year extension in 2019 worth $90 million at an average of $15 million per year.
