The Cincinnati Bengals were dealt a severe blow on the injury front today, as it appears one of their better offensive weapons will be forced to undergo surgery before the start of the 2016 season.

According to Jeff Owczarski of Cincinnati.com, Bengals' tight end Tyler Eifert is set to undergo ankle surgery after injuring his ankle during this year's Pro Bowl.

Initial reports indicated the injury was not serious and Eifert would simply need rest to recover, despite leaving the stadium in a walking boot. It now appears he will need surgery which comes with a minimum three-month recovery period afterward.

This timeline would put Eifert back on the field at the end of August, meaning he would miss all of the Bengals' training camp but be ready to take the field in Week 1.

The Bengals elected to pick up Eifert's fifth year option in April after a career year. Eifert caught 52 passes for 615 yards and 13 touchdowns in 13 games during the 2015 season.
