The Pittsburgh Steelers will have right tackle Marcus Gilbert on the field once the regular season starts if he has his way, but what type of condition he will be in when he makes his appearance remains less certain.
After his preseason appearance against the Saints over the week-end Gilbert suffered what he himself described as a serious elbow injury, but while making that statement Gilbert also left no doubt that he would be playing come the regular season.
“I’ll be there no matter what,” Gilbert said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “If I have to wrap my arm up, it doesn’t matter. There’s no way I’m missing that first game. It’s not going to be something that’s going to keep me off the field. I’m going to rehab the [heck] out of it. It will be good for the first game of the season.”
While Giblert's toughness and drive to win is certainly to be admired, his health should also be a cause for concern for the Steelers' faithful as the head into the regular season.
