Steelers blasted for previously supporting Kenny Pickett

One noted analyst is taking serious issue with how the Steelers handled their former quarterback.

The Kenny Pickett era with the Pittsburgh Steelers came to a stunning close this offseason, as he was unceremoniously shipped to the in-state rival Philadelphia Eagles. This move came shortly after the Steelers signed Russell Wilson and Justin Fields; Pickett was reportedly unhappy with the move.

Once seen as the heir-apparent to franchise legend Ben Roethlisberger, Pickett is now across the state of Pennsylvania in what was a surprising turn of events.

But according to NFL analyst Warren Sharp, the Steelers never should have stuck with Pickett for as long as they did and saying they were essentially the cause of why things didn't pan out as originally planned.

“If you draft a QB in the first round, and then feed him to the wolves that are Matt Canada’s play calls as a rookie, and then don’t realize Canada sucks and keep him in 2023, guaranteeing another offseason without good offensive tutelage, and then fire Canada midseason, but replace him with tandem of two coaches who have never called plays in the NFL before, what are you expecting that you’ll get?

“I’m not pro-Pickett, but the way the Steelers “supported” their first round QB and hopeful heir apparent to Big Ben was embarrassing,” Sharp wrote.

The Russell Wilson experience is now officially underway in Pittsburgh, and Pickett, who was once viewed as the quarterback of the future, is now the backup to Jalen Hurts with the Eagles. During his career in Pittsburgh, Pickett finished with a 14-10 record along with 4,474 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and a 62.6 completion percentage.
