Steelers Cam Heyward announces his career plans
A big personal development from the Steelers veteran and team captain.
Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers are waiting with baited breath to see exactly what the future holds for veteran and team captain Cam Heyward, who continues his contract holdout despite having one year left on his current deal.
In fact, earlier this month, Heyward even hinted at potentially leaving the Steelers and specifically cited Cleveland as a potential destination that he could finish his career owing to personal connections to the area.
“I have talked to my wife (Allie), and we know the reality, and we have had those talks, and she said it could be fun to play somewhere else,” Heyward said of potentially departing Pittsburgh. “If that is what is needed to be done, then so be it.”
However, he took to X (formerly known as Twitter) yesterday to not only wish everyone a happy Father's Day, but also to state that his goal is to retire as a member of the Steelers:
He's also previously stated that he feels he can still perform at a high level despite his age, and references powerlifters on the other side of 40 who continue to perform in an elite manner.
“My game is different from everybody else in this league,” Heyward said. “I like to think I can play the run and the pass. And that’s why I’m different. Last year Mike (Tomlin) brought to my attention, the thing that’s really cool is you watch powerlifters, and my game is built on power and technique. And (powerlifters) go into their 40s. And so, you know, that’s what kind of research I’m doing behind the scenes.”
Will the two sides get a deal worked out with Training Camp officially now just over a month away?
