This would be among the more shocking developments to befall the Pittsburgh Steelers - as if they didn't surprise their fans enough already during the offseason.
As you remember, they completely overhauled their quarterback department by bringing in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields while trading Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles and allowing Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph to depart via free agency.
But according to one particular analyst, Wilson is actually the ideal candidate for the Steelers to cut! Pro Football Network's Dakota Randell has stated his belief that the Steelers could move on from Wilson should he get beat out for the starting job by Fields, and his minimal contract would make that a simple fix:
"With a salary of just over $1 million, Russell Wilson arguably is more valuable to the Steelers if he stays on the roster. However, the salary also makes him easy to cut, and if Justin Fields wins the starting QB job, Pittsburgh might want to cut Wilson to avoid distractions," Randell wrote.
If the Steelers ultimately decide to go with Fields as their starting quarterback, it could very well signal the end of Wilson's NFL career .
