If you ever had any doubt that, despite being an absolute killer on the National Football League playing surface, Pittsburgh Steelers legend Jerome Bettis was at his core just a really good dude, these latest comments may erase those doubts.
In a recent interview with cleveland.com's Branson Wright Bettis revealed that despite the Steeler in him, he's hoping to see hated rivals the Cleveland Browns achieve some measure of success.
"I don't root against the Cleveland Browns," said Bettis, in Akron for the Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone. "Well maybe I do at least twice a year. But they are a team in the division and if they would ever get into the playoffs and get hot, it wouldn't be that I would be [actually] rooting for them but I would love for them to have success as well."
In fact it was a little more than hope from Bettis, it almost sounded like he was expecting the team to eventually achieve it.
"There's enough opportunity for all of the teams to have some success, even the Cleveland Browns," Bettis said. "I know I sound crazy saying that but their time will come."
At his core Bettis is still and will always be a Steeler, but the man has such a big heart that he'd even wish success on a bitter rival.
