Could the Pittsburgh Steelers be on the verge of a key acquisition?
According to Ray Fittipaldo of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers could be in the market for former Miami Dolphins veteran linebacker Jerome Baker, who was just released.
Baker, who is set to enter the second season of his three-year, $37.5 million extension, is currently undergoing rehabilitation for having suffered a broken wrist in Week 18.
While making an appearance on the morning show on 93.7 The Fan on Wednesday morning, Fittipaldo said that Baker, who amassed a total of 78 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions and a defensive touchdown last season in just 13 games played, could be on the Pittsburgh radar.
“I remember going back to when Baker was coming out of Ohio State. That’s an annual stop on the Steelers’ Pro Day tour. And there was some interest then,” Fittipaldo said. "I think Baker ended up going in the third round, maybe second round. But yeah, he was a Day 2 pick and there was definitely some interest back then.
“I know he is coming off an injury. But yeah, I mean, that salary cap casualty by the Dolphins could end up being fortuitous for the Steelers if they can potentially hammer out a deal.”
