Their season is over.

The season for the Pittsburgh Steelers is over despite their regular season finale victory at home over the visiting Cleveland Browns. That's the bad news. However, the good news for longtime head coach Mike Tomlin is that he can once again hang his hat on the fact that he led his team to a winning season.

That's 19 straight years where they've enjoyed a record at the .500 mark or better.

And it was obvious that Steelers players did their best yesterday afternoon in order ensure that the veteran head coach would have the winning record.

“That was just for Mike T, man,” running back Najee Harris said.

“I think everyone in the locker room would’ve believed it,” safety Terrell Edmunds said. “Just simply because we were all so bought-in. Everyone was together. Everyone was trying to stay together. That’s what we ended up doing. We can at least hang our hat on that. Even though we didn’t get to the promised land, to dig from 2-6 and come out with a winning season, man, I think that’s special.”

Was Tomlin making a big deal of the record to his players? Not at all.

“No,” cornerback Levi Wallace said when asked if Tomlin ever mentioned it. “But the media did a great job of putting it out there. Obviously, we knew what was on the line for Coach T. It’s my first year being here, but just the leader that he is, the man that he is, it makes you want to fight harder to keep that record alive for him. I know we went out there and the first priority was winning the game for Coach T.”

It's obvious that the Steelers players have nothing but respect and good things to say about the long time veteran head coach and are happy to play for him.
