The Pittsburgh Steelers begin their preseason on Friday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and for those who are wondering whether or not quarterback Kenny Pickett will be able to start, you now have your answer.
According to the man himself, he’ll be ready to play for as long as needed.
”I’m on go,” Pickett said Tuesday after the Steelers held their penultimate practice ahead of the preseason opener. “I’ll be in there for however long they want me to be. When they pull me out, they’ll pull me out. I’m excited to play.”
”We’re making good strides,” he said. “We picked up where we left off in the spring. Guys are competing really hard, so you love to be in that type of environment.”
As far as what he’s expecting from this season in terms of the offense, Pickett provided the following.
“We’re definitely taking more shots down the field,” Pickett said. “I think everyone here has seen that. We’re more consistent in the red zone. It’s been great to see how competitive we’ve been in seven shots and win some of the drills. Our defense is top notch, so whenever you’re having a little bit of success versus them, it makes you think you’ll fare all right during the season.”
This will be the first season in which Pickett enters the season as the unquestioned starter.
