Stephen Jones sounds off on Dak Prescott contract situation
The Cowboys quarterback is set to enter the final year of his current deal.
Until it finally gets done, the contract status of Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is going to be a major issue hanging over the franchise.
Right now, it appears as though the Cowboys are wiling to go into the season with Prescott playing on the last year of his deal. But according to Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones, the son of team owner and longtime general manager Jerry Jones, a new contract for Prescott is considered a priority of the team.
In fact, the younger Jones reiterated his father's belief that Prescott can be the quarterback to lead Dallas back to the promised land of Super Bowl glory for the 1st time since their dynasty days of the mid 1990s.
"Absolutely. I mean, I totally think Dak can lead us to a championship," Jones said. "He does everything the right way. He's certainly the leader of this football team. He keeps everybody motivated in the offseason. He's got everybody working out and doing all the things that it takes to put in the work to give yourself every opportunity to win a championship."
"But we've won 12 games three years in a row," he said. "I think that's right at the top in terms of what teams have done over a three-year period. And we're hanging around the rim. We've just gotta go up there and grab it, to use a basketball term, and dunk it in. We're hanging around the rim. We just got to get the job done."
Prescott racked up an impressive 4,516 yards along with an NFL-leading 36 touchdown passes last season. But as the saying goes, regular season success means nothing come playoff time. And Prescott and the Cowboys were felled by the Green Bay Packers, ending their season in disappointing fashion.
What exactly will a new potential deal for Prescott look like, and what would you as fans be most comfortable with?
