An NFL team has decided to cut a versatile running back today.

According to multiple reports, the New Orleans' Saints have released running back C.J Spiller on Tuesday. The 29-year old had signed a four-year, $16 million deal in free agency in early 2015 and played in 13 games for the Saints last season.

He was a healthy scratch for the team during their season opener against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. He was looking to bounce back from injuries to his knee and shoulder suffered in the summer.

Spiller played sparingly in his lone season with the Saints, rushing for 112 yards on 36 attempts in 2015. The veteran spent the first five seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills after being selected in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2012.

While his rushing ability has declined since, his talent at catching passes out of the backfield will certainly mean he will draw interest on the open market.
