One thing we know about the Texans is that this defense is filled with star power. It proved it again in week 1 and Whitney Mercilus got rewarded for his performance.
Mercilus, who didn't record a single sack in the first five weeks of the 2015 seasons, brought Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler twice on Sunday, good enough to be named the AFC defensive player of the week.
The 26-year-old also added 4 tackles and a forced fumble to his stats line.
Mercilus is beginning his fifth season in the NFL, all with the Texans. Despite his slow start, he had a career-high 12 sacks in 2015.
