Now that Brock Osweiler has opted to sign with the Houston Texans, the Denver Broncos have their sights set on a possible replacement for him.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Broncos are expected to pursue San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who is looking for a trade out of San Fran.
Kaepernick reportedly requested permission to be traded from the 49ers in late February following a season in which he was benched in favor of Blaine Gabbert, although early indications were that few teams were interested.
It's currently unclear if Denver is hoping the 49ers will release Kaepernick, or will try and engineer a trade for the disgruntled signal-caller.
The 28-year-old is under contract for another five seasons after agreeing to a team-friendly extension with San Francisco several years ago.
Maybe Kaepernick could be an option for the Broncos now that they find themselves without a quarterback for the upcoming 2016 season.
If the #Broncos lose QB Brock Osweiler, expect them to come after QB Colin Kaepernick. That appears to be their backup plan.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 9, 2016
