The Dallas Cowboys are in a much better spot than they were just this morning.
According to ESPN's Todd Archer, the Cowboys have restructured the contract of star linebacker , creating around $5 million in cap space.
This is crucial, as the team only had around $3.4 million in- the least in the league - before the move. Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick have already had their deals re-worked in order to get under the current salary cap.
Dallas has the tendency to sacrifice long-term flexibility for a short-term fix, which is whycarries an enormous cap number ($24.7 million) for the 2017 season. He had his deal restructured twice already and the team often designs their contracts for multiple restructures down the line.
The Cowboys now have a little more room to maneuver this offseason, which will help them improve the club in free agency.
