It appears the Pittsburgh Steelers will be shorthanded for their Week 1 matchup.

Steelers wide receiver Markus Wheaton has been ruled out for his team's season opener on Monday against the Washington Redskins with a shoulder injury.

The third-year receiver has missed the majority of camp dealing with the injury, appearing in just one preseason contest. Wheaton was expected to be the team's number two receiver, a role that will now likely be split between Sammie Coates and Eli Rogers.

With star wideout Antonio Brown likely to be covered by All-Pro corner Josh Norman for the majority of the game, Coates and Rogers will need to step up their game in Wheaton's absence.

Steelers' cornerback Senquez Golson (foot), running back Roosevelt Nix(back), and center Cody Wallace (knee) have also been ruled out.
