While the personal turmoil that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is going through in terms of his strained marriage, he's also facing mounting criticism for reportedly being a distraction to the rest of his team, who are currently below the .500 mark with a pedestrian 3-4 record so far in the 2022 NFL season.
Of course, Brady took an 11 day absence during Bucs training camp to deal with what he termed a personal issue, which turned out to be time with his family. But recently, Brady also attended the wedding of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. The trip caused him to miss his team's walkthrough preparation day for their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which they would lose by a 20-18 final score.
And according to New York Giants quarterback turned broadcaster Phil Simms, the Bucs aren't happy about those distractions.
"The distractions caused by him: Going away for 10 days in training camp, what went on with the wedding is a distraction to the football team. It hurts," Simms said on an episode of "Inside the NFL".
"If you could go back in time, Tom Brady would stay retired down in Tampa, no doubt about it," Simms said. "He didn’t know he was going to lose his center and two guards, that’s one thing."
The Bucs currently enjoy the lead over the Baltimore Ravens in they quest to improve to 4-4.
