There's been a lot of talk about how the Eagles could use to upgrade their secondary but it looks like a guy they already have on their roster is upgrading it single-handedly. 2nd year cornerback C.J. Smith has been a revelation for the Eagles this summer and it's impressive defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz,
“It has slowed down for him a little bit compared to last year at this time. Last year at this time his head was swimming. He was coming from North Dakota State and everything was new to him,” Schwartz said at his press conference on Sunday. “Now he’s been able to work more on technique. He’s been able to win match-ups and things like that. He’s an improved player from year one to year two, and I think that’s the sign that he’s on the right track."
This is huge news for the Eagles if Smith can actually play ball on Sundays in the fall. You get a guy who's young on a cheap contract who can help you.
This is what Smith had to say about all this,
“I got my confidence earlier this year. Last year during OTAs, I wasn’t really confident at all,” Smith said on Wednesday. “I just said forget everything. I don’t have anything to lose, so I just grind. I know the plays, I am more comfortable. It’s easier for me to relax and just play.”
