Aaron Rodgers speaks again, tries to clarify controversial comments

The embattled Packers QB has once again provided the sports world with reading material.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has come under fire for what many are describing as having mislead his team with regards to his immunization status. He recently tested positive for COVID-19 and was forced to miss yesterday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium; backup Jordan Love got his first career start in Rodgers' absence.

Rodgers made his normal appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" last week, where he took what he described as "the woke mob" and "cancel culture" to task.

"I realize I'm in the crosshairs of the woke mob right now," Rodgers said. "So before my final nail gets put in my cancel culture casket, I think I would like to set the record straight on so many of the blatant lies that are out there about myself."

Of course, the reaction to Rodgers was swift and decisive - and nearly universally negative from pundits ranging from Terry Bradshaw to Keith Olbermann to Howard Stern.

And now, Rodgers has once again appeared on McAfee's show, where he started his comments by trying to clarify his words from last week.

“I do realize I am a role model to a lot of people," he said. "I want to start off this show by acknowledging that I made some comments that people might have felt were misleading. To anyone who felt misled by those comments I take full responsibility for those comments.”

Rodgers added, “I’m an athlete, I’m not an activist,” when asked about his comments about how the right side or left side of the political aisle considered his statements.

Rodgers said that he's aware that he's taking a beating and that he's in the media crosshairs right now, but that he's not paying attention to exactly what's being said. He's also not going to criticize anyone who has offered criticism of his comments.

"I shared an opinion that was polarizing, and I misled some people about my status,” Rodgers said. “But in the end, I have to stay true to who I am and what I’m about and I stand behind the things that I said.”

“I’ve heard from so many of the guys (on the Packers), and the coaching staff, the whole organization has been really supportive and great through this time,” Rodgers continued. “As far as I know, 10 days is up Saturday, I can go into the facility and then I’ll be able to play after that.”
