Bengals WR Tyler Boyd rips officials following Super Bowl LVI loss to Rams

The game wasn't without a bit of controversy.

The unbelievable season for the Cincinnati Bengals came to a disappointing end yesterday in Super Bowl LVI, as they were felled by Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams by a 23-20 defeat. Stafford's game-winning touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp with just under two minutes remaining proved to be the difference for the Rams, who won it all on their home turf of SoFi Stadium.

And, as is typically the case, the game wasn't without a bit of controversy. A controversial holding call on Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson with just over a minute remaining in regulation that was at best a marginal penalty as part of three straight flags on Cincinnati paved the way for Stafford's game-winning pass to Kupp.

Following the game, wide receiver Tyler Boyd made sure to take a subtle jab at the officials for playing a role in the outcome of the game.

"At the end of the day, that's not my job to speak on it, but, I mean, I'm hurt about it. They weren't throwing flags the whole game," he said. "They should've just let it play out how they were doing the whole game. But, I mean, it's a lot of pressure going on when [the game] is about to be over. It is what it is."

It certainly was a frustrating finish for the Bengals, who were the second least penalized team in the NFL during the regular season. Of course, Cincinnati also benefitted from a controversial action from the officials when they neglected to throw a flag on wide receiver Tee Higgins after he clearly grabbed the face mask of LA's Jalen Ramsey prior to hauling in a touchdown pass from Joe Burrow.

Human error plays a role in our daily lives, and unfortunately for the Bengals, the controversial call came at the worst possible time.
