Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers everywhere held their collective breaths when defensive end T.J. Watt exited yesterday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium with what was feared to be a torn pectoral muscle. He was even seen mouthing what appeared to be "I tore it" at team medical personnel as he exited the field.

While the belief was that Watt's season could be over if in fact he had suffered a torn pec, he sought out additional medical opinions on his injury, and there's some light at the end of the tunnel - his ailment isn't believed to be season ending.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero:

"Steelers star T.J. Watt is still gathering additional opinions, but the belief is his pectoral tear will not require surgery and is not season-ending, sources tell me and @RapSheet. His exact return date depends on the healing process, but it could be before the end of October."

Needless to say, this is a major development for the Steelers. Had he suffered a torn pec, he almost certainly would have been on the shelf for the rest of the regular season.

The Steelers are now in preparations for their Week 2 matchup against the the New England Patriots.
