Colin Kaepernick expresses latest hope in quest for NFL comeback

He's not given up on a return to the NFL.

He still wants another shot in the NFL, and though he's reportedly been turned down by the Seattle Seahawks, he's continuing his quest to return to the professional ranks. And according to the man himself, it doesn't even have to be in a starting position.

Former NFL quarterback-turned-activist Colin Kaepernick is willing to take a backup job if it means that he's back on an NFL roster for the first time since the 2016 season.

"I know I have to find my way back in," Kaepernick said recently during an interview Brandon Marshall, Chad Johnson and Adam "Pacman" Jones in an interview with the "I Am An Athlete" podcast. "If I have to come in as a backup, that's fine. But that's not where I'm staying. And when I prove that I'm a starter, I want to be able to step on the field as such."

Kaepernick became synonymous with social justice reform when, as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, knelt during the national anthem in 2016 to protest police brutality and social inequality. Kaepernick has not seen NFL action since January of 2017 with 49ers. He opted out of his contract in March 2017 and has has been a free-agent ever since.

Of course, it wasn't too long ago that he participated a much-hyped workout in an attempt to make a return to the pro stage. And despite several teams reportedly showing interest, none took a waiver on him. He also missed out on a chance to join the XLF, as they balked at his reported salary demands.

Will Kaepernick ever find himself back in the NFL? Only time will tell.
