It's officially the end of an era in the National Football League, as Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady announced earlier yesterday in a video message that his National Football League career is officially over with, leaving the game with seven Super Bowl titles, five Super Bowl MVPs, three NFL MVPs, racking up the most passing touchdowns (649) and the passing yards in NFL history (89,214).
Of course, he's 45 years old, and turns 46 years of age later this year. Had he returned for yet another season, he would have remained the NFL's oldest active player. But now that he has officially stepped aside, the Dallas Cowboys now lay claim to having the NFL's oldest active player.
That would be one Jason Peters, the former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle who once professed his hatred for the Cowboys, but somehow found his way to the organization that he fought for years as a member of their NFC East rivals.
The 41 year old is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March, and as of right now, there's no indication that he'll either be returning for a second year in Big D, or potentially follow now-former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to the Los Angeles Chargers.
