Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones doesn't hold back in describing loss to Broncos
Well, the enigmatic team owner is likely echoing the thoughts of his fan base.
There really wasn't much that went right for the Dallas Cowboys this afternoon at in the friendly confines of AT&T Stadium against the Denver Broncos.
The visiting Broncos ended the Cowboys' six-game winning streak, earning a 30-16 victory and improving to 5-4 in 2021. Meanwhile, the Cowboys dropped to 6-2. Their defense didn't give the No. 1 offense in the NFL much to work with, while Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater threw for a touchdown and had a sneak for another.
They'd eventually enjoy a 30-0 lead before Dallas was able to get on the scoreboard; the victory was seventh straight in the series dating back to 1995.
Meanwhile, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones didn't mince words in his thoughts immediately after the disappointing setback.
“It’s the height of disappointment,” a clearly disappointed Jones said following the game. “It’s putting the cake out in front of you and letting you put your finger in the icing and then turning around and taking the whole (thing) back.”
"Certainly, it’s inexplicable," Jones continued. "They played an outstanding football game against what we think is a good football team, and that’s the Dallas Cowboys."
However, things appeared to have a chance to turn around after the Cowboys forced Denver's offense into a three-and-out on their opening drive of the 2nd half. Malik Turner then blocked the subsequent punt, but rookie cornerback Nahshon Wright touched it after it crossed the original line of scrimmage. The ball was then recovered by Denver's Jonas Griffith, leading soon to another three points on the board.
The NFL offered the following explanation as to why Denver got the ball back on social media:
“In #DENvsDAL, the punt is blocked & goes beyond the line of scrimmage, where it’s touched by the receiving team. Since the receiving team touches the ball beyond the line of scrimmage, the kicking team is eligible to recover the ball. DEN recovers the ball, but cannot advance it."
Head coach Mike McCarthy was in no mood to talk about it, as he was clearly focused on the fact that he needs to correct other mistakes that his team made.
“It doesn’t matter,” he said. “It’s not going to solve anything today.”
